VGBA Recall
On July 23, 2010, Attorney General Eric Holder signed final regulations revising the Justice Department's ADA regulations. The new revisions will require all public bodies of water to have accessible means of entry and exit for people with disabilities. This new law takes effect March 15,2011 and facilities must be in full compliance by March 15, 2012.
The level of accessibility depends on the size of the pool. For pools under 300 linear feet in size, the ADA Standard for Accessible Design calls for one primary means of access, which must be either an ADA-compliant pool lift, or a ramp. Pools with greater than 300 linear feet of pool wall must also have a secondary method of entry. This secondary method can be a transfer wall, transfer system, pool stairs, or another ADA-compliant pool lift.
The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a voluntary recall of drain covers due to incorrectly rated flow rates. The CPSC has released the following information regarding the recall so far.
- This is a voluntary recall that does not affect all VGBA drains and configurations
- This recall does not pertain to systems with a multiple drain system or gravity drainage systems with the exception of kiddie pools, wading pools and in ground spas. Covers in those bodies of water are subject to the recall.
- This recall only affects certain drains by certain manufacturers
- This recall does not pertain to VGBA approved covers installed prior to December 19, 2008

Here is a list of affected manufacturers. Visit the website for each manufacturer to determine which drains are part of the recall. If you have any additional questions, please call our office at 714-754-4044.
