Update 1/20/2009 - New Solutions to Frequently Asked Questions.
The December 19, 2008 deadline for the Virginia Graeme Baker Act (VGBA) has come and gone and a majority of all pool owners are now in violation of the federal law.
Some pool owners have taken hasty action, and while they feel they have complied with the VGBA, they may have put themselves in violation of State Department of Health (DOH) Codes, or may have a false sense of compliance.
Here is some up-to-date information and quick tips to help keep your facility from risk.
Haven't stated looking into compliance yet? Bad idea. A December 15, 2008 open memo from the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CSPC) to the public pool and spa community clearly states, "Although we acknowledge the challenges that many owners and operators are still trying to overcome, this 1-year old law is clear: all public pools and spas have until December 19, 2008 to have ASME/ANSI A112.19.8-2007 compliant drain covers safely and securely installed and a 2nd anti-entrapment system installed where there is only a single main drain." So if you have not started the compliance process yet, it is a great time to get going. Do an assessment of your facility. This can be performed on your own, or with the help of KSI…but get going now!
KSI has assembled a complete professional team to assess your facility, execute the required work and provide a certificate of compliance for our customers. Please note that VGBA questions are arising almost on a daily basis, and while we don't profess to be the ultimate experts, we are working with leaders in the industry daily to provide answers and solutions as quickly and accurately as possible.
